How Brick Quantities are Calculated
Brick counts are based on the facing dimensions of the unit combined with the thickness of the mortar joint (typically 3/8 inch or 10 mm):
- Standard Modular Brick: Requires 6.85 bricks per square foot of wall face.
- Queen Size Brick: Requires 5.75 bricks per square foot.
- Holland Stone 4x8 Paver: Requires 4.5 pavers per square foot of patio floor.
Mortar Mix Requirements
A standard 80-pound (36 kg) bag of pre-blended Type S or Type N masonry mortar lays approximately 100 to 120 standard modular bricks. For interior thin-brick veneer, contractors use modified thin-set tile mortar rather than masonry cement.
